You might think it’s easy standing up here all the time, spouting off out in front and editing and such.
It’s not. It’s not easy.
What makes it considerably less difficult, what makes it possible in the first place, is the broadbased and — I want to say unquestioning, but that’s not quite right, because a certain person is full of questions, ideas, suggestions, practical considerations, quick grasp of figures, pragmatic business sense, progressive outlook, eagerness to learn technical and every aspect of this industry, high devotion to customers, cooperative approach to colleagues, so let’s call it — unstinting support that the editorial staff (two) and contributing editors (eight) receive from the business office. Headed by, it can now be said, publisher Kristina Panter (pictured). That’s where the buck starts and stops.
Some are born to greatness; some have greatness thrust upon them. I actually don’t know that much about Kristina’s background, we haven’t had the time. But six months ago she suddenly had all the responsibilities, challenges, and worries of a publisher thrust upon her, after two years as national account manager, where she merely sold all the advertising display space to the GNSS companies who, in a very real sense, are the ones to actually bring this magazine to you.
Now, as of January 1, 2008, she also has the title on the door and the carpet on the floor that go with all those challenges, worries, and responsibilities.
More deserved it could not be.
She oversees a portfolio of print, online, e-mail newsletters, web seminars, discussion forums, and custom marketing, not to mention GPS World’s annual Leadership Dinner. This enterprise reaches an audience of 176,613+ buyers: commercial end users across seven major market sectors, consumer and commercial OEM manufacturers, system designers and integrators, key government and military officials, researchers, and other industry-qualified professionals around the world, 100 percent of whom receive the magazine on personal direct request.
We’re more than a magazine. Under Kristina Panter’s direction, we are an information dissemination system. And, again under her direction, we’re not done yet. Look for exciting developments this year, and next, and next.
Think she doesn’t mean business? Just ask her for her media kit. While you’re at it, say hello.
